What is TheTruthIsntSexy? It is the truth that abuse of women has reached a staggering rate in America and the UK. On average, every 7 minutes a woman is abused by her boyfriend, friend or even husband. We aim to help prevent this type of relationship abuse. Women have been conditioned to keep their wits about them when they are out in public. From the time they are small girls, to when they are all grown up, we keep telling them to be safe when out in public. But the real dangers lie when they get home. A relationship is the last place you’d expect to find violence, but it’s the first place that it often starts. We are trying to raise awareness about abuse in dating and all types of relationships. Studies have shown that a woman is twice as likely to be assaulted at home, than she would be out in a dark alleyway in a bad part of time. This is because women let their guard down around their loved ones and people whom they are dating. What are some ways you can avoid meeting people like this in the first place? Well, there really isn’t a one size fits all fix. You can try to start by meeting people in places that other good people might be found hanging out. A bar would not be the ideal place. Some people have tried the online dating sites. There are websites out there that can give you coupon codes that will save you a significant amount of money on your monthly membership to such sites as eHarmony and Match.com. These two dating sites are very trustworthy and many people have fell in love and even gotten married to the people whom they were matched up with.
The 19th May saw teams of The Truth Isn’t Sexy Activists heading out into the city of London to convince Publicans to display the campaign in their pubs. Only hours before the FA Cup final was due to start, Westminster, Lambeth, Islington, Southwark and Camden all experienced teams of jolly and increasingly tipsy activists determined to get TTIS material out into the capital. Big thanks to everyone who got involved! The day was a great success and a very good time was had by all.
So how did we do?
74 pubs signed up and 30 000 beer mats were distributed- All in 3 hours!!
Everyone had such a great time there were numerous calls to do it again. So come along to the meeting at The Horse pub, Waterloo 7pm on the 6th June to discuss good reasons for another pub crawl.
